Description

Catori is a 3D platformer with collectathon aspects. It is a single player experience with the goal to immerse to player into the mystical world Catoris adventure takes place in. At the beginning of the vertical slice Catori wakes up in the world of the Trickster. As a punishment for entering his realm without permission he steals her pan flute – her only way to get out of his realm again. Together with Alo, the little will-o'-wisp you have to explore the realm of the Trickster to get back your pan flute and find the melody parts that open the gates to another world.

History

Creating the idea

The core team was formed during a compulsory optional subject called “Game Studies” consisting of Jan Mikusch, Oliver Moholi and Vanessa Melicher. Within this team the first idea for the project “Catori” has been created. A treatment for an entire game has been developed and the moment the core team decided to create a vertical slice of the game as their bachelor project "Team Catori” was born.

Preproduction

When the entire team was built up the first treatment was refined and modified to fit the possibilities the students had during their last year. It was a long and not so easy way to bring together the dreams and visions and the realistically possible options. Everybody worked together so that every single team member could identify himself or herself with the project. The preproduction and the production soon coexisted, and a smooth transition happened.

Production

The first concepts were created in summer 2019. A lot of concepts for the art style, characters, the environment and so on. Due to the talented art team it didn’t take long to establish a unique art style with a strong shape language. In autumn 2019 the first 3D models were created. The character animation began in spring 2020 while the asset production was a continuous process. Even though a lot of problems occurred during the whole project team Catori is proud of the product that will be presented on 28th of May in 2020.
